Cleaning up GOP cowpies.

Lord Have Mercy I hate George W. Bush and all he's done to rip apart our democracy. Here's another steaming dog turd he left behind for the progressives to clean up. My sincere hope is that they all end up in prison. I'm NOT ready to forgive and forget. No justice, no peace. Know justice, know peace.

Let's throw OUR shoes

OK, folks. How are we going to virtually, symbolically, or physically throw OUR shoes at W? I feel we Americans must support this angry Iraqi man, and show our own disgust at W's policies of torture and destruction.

Should we all mail a pair to the White House? They could always donate them to charity after someone throws them at W.

Should we all mail a copy of a pair?

Should we stage symbolic shoe throwings in 0ur public spaces?

What do you think?

Let me hear your analogies!!!

I was reading some comments at DCup this morning, and read the quote below by Fran, and I thought it would make a good post. Let me hear YOUR best analogies regarding this financial mess on Wall Street, the bailout, and the blame game.

"It is all everyone else's fault. This is like being in therapy with someone with borderline personality disorder, only its the entire country that has it." . . . FranIam

"Like having to decide whether to let your house burn, or pay the Three Stooges $700 billion to try to put it out" . . . ME

See a great description of the bailout HERE.

OK, let's hear yours!!

Alaska Women Reject Palin Rally - spread the word!

Of course the mainstream media is trying to keep THIS under wraps. Evidently over 1400 folks showed up for the biggest political rally ever in the history of the State of Alaska!!!! Did anyone see this mentioned on CNN? MSNBC? ABC? NBC? CBS? If not, they need to hear from all of us LOUD and CLEAR that we will no longer tolerate this ridiculous "liberal media" bs and that they had better get their act together.

Know what bloggers? You are the new Patriots. YOU are the ones having online meetings to discuss the truth about freedom and justice. YOU are the voice standing up to oppression and corruption. YOU are using your blog to spread the word about REAL democracy.

O-BA-MA!! O-BA-MA!! O-BA-MA!! O-BA-MA!! O-BA-MA!!

Great jokes that I didn't write

Stolen from here:

Conan O’Brien said: “Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has many views. She says she’s opposed to same-sex marriage. Did you know that? Yeah, Palin says everyone knows marriage isn’t for gay people; it’s for pregnant teenagers.”

Then Jay Leno weighed in with: “Well, it’s a very strange political campaign. I mean, out on the campaign trail, John McCain and Sarah Palin are talking about how they stood up to the Republican party, they fought the Republican establishment, and they battled Republicans. Their message: vote Republican.”

and then there’s Conan O’Brien again with:

“Sarah Palin has been getting briefed on what she needs to know to be John McCain’s vice president. The first thing they taught her was CPR.”

But the award must go to Jimmy Kimmel for this one:

“There are only 56 days until the election. I saw that they’re selling Sarah Palin action figures. Sad incident at Toys R Us today - a Sarah Palin doll shot My Little Pony.”

And stolen from Lloyd the carpenter in northeast Iowa:

Sarah Palin = right-wing hairball

This is not support

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The rate of suicides among active duty soldiers is on pace to surpass both last year's numbers and the rate of suicide in the general U.S. population for the first time since the Vietnam war, according to U.S. Army officials.

Not exactly "supporting the troops" is it, Dubya??

Things I've discovered since our job loss

As most of you know, my husband and family bread winner lost his previously-lucrative position in a home building business last October. Things have been tough, to say the least. The construction market isn't exactly open to new hires but he's been working all his contacts and looking at alternative careers. We had put away $ for a rainy day, but now it's storming and we're in a very precarious position. The good news is that I've landed a wonderful part-time job at a great employer who offers benefits, but it isn't enough to support our family of five. He's working short-term jobs and starting his own businesses but for about 1/3 of his previous income. Our modest but perfect dream home is on the market. And we just pray to anyone who'll listen that the car, washing machine, etc just keeping running.

I grew up with very little cash - my Dad was a state employee. We didn't have much spending power but Dad always had a secure job. Then I was a Social Worker after college. So I'm no stranger to living on a shoe string, which helps.

Anyway, back to my point. I've learned some great lessons through this and now I'll share:

1. Friends love potlucks! People just enjoy getting together with other friends, and many of them are tightening their belts too. Potlucks are a great way to entertain.

2. People love you all the same even when you're suddenly poor. In fact, they love you even more for holding your head up and plowing ahead.

3. Help comes from sources you never, ever expected

4. Knowing you have several families who would take you in is a blessing that money can't buy.

5. Other things money can't buy: healthy kids, a good marriage, good friends, a big happy extended family, 46 years with my Grandma

6. Things go more smoothly in the long run if you pay as much as you can on every bill you can. Sometimes you can't make all the ends meet in a crisis but each utility etc likes to see something put down.

7. There are lots of fabulous consignment clothing stores in the Twin Cities and Rochester.

8. You CAN be happy without a credit card. I put all mine away and have used one of them once since October.

9. If you're a big reader like me, find a good used book store. Mine buys my books and gives me more $ in store credit if I don't take it in cash. And of course there's always the library.

10. Basic cable's not so bad: our 10 crappy channels actually keep us away from the TV, which is really a good thing. I hated Hannah Montana anyway.

11. Old vans that are paid for and run great are one of life's simple pleasures.

12. Picnics at a free beach are lovely.

13. Hair dye in a box looks just as good as a professional job. And $7 versus $75 is a no-brainer.

14. Purex laundry detergent cleans just fine.

15. My kids have rediscovered their bikes.

16. The really important moments in life have nothing to do with your bank account.

17. Northwest Airlines just announced a lay off of 2600 folks in management, so we certainly aren't alone.

I Support Gay Marriage

Let me go on record, right here, right now. I totally support the rights of our fellow GLBT Americans to fully enjoy all the rights and responsibilities of legal marriage. As a heterosexual woman married to the same wonderful man for over 17 years, let me state that my marriage is not adversely affected in the slightest bit by gay couples. If anything, it upholds the idea of commitment, family, and loads of other "traditional family values". I'm just sick to death of this argument. Against gay marriage? Well enough, get over it already. Put on your big kid panties and deal with it. Go feed some hungry children or sling hash at a homeless shelter. Put your whiny energy to use somewhere.

Enough Already!

I'm casting my vote right now for a nation-wide primary in July, followed by 3 months of campaigning before the November election. I'm just sick to death of this drawn out presidential race. I remain a John Edwards supporter, but we can't always get what we want. Barack Obama is now my choice, but frankly I'd be glad to get ANY Democrat into the Oval Office after The Idiot and his minions.

More bullsh$t about gas prices

Our good friend MG turned me on to this video from the Colbert Report. Damn funny, and really, really sad.

How do we show our outrage?

I'm just mad as hell and don't know what to do about it. Is anyone else over the top angry that the big oil companies are raking in record profits on our backs? Guess it's not enough that we're in a recession, but now we have to shell out more bucks for gas, and consequently food, so that Exxon, BP, and others can pack their wallets. Where is our government protection? Where is the justice? Where is the corporate control? WHERE IS THE AMERICAN OUTRAGE?

I just called, have you?

I just called all three of my Congressional Reps: Sen. Norm Coleman, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Rep. John Kline. Have you called yours yet? Phone numbers for DC and local offices can be found at www.congress.org. Took me all of 3 minutes - it's the least we can do. The very least.

Time to Speak Up, America

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Roger Clemens' denial of steroid use warrants further investigation, Congress said Wednesday in asking the Justice Department to determine whether the star pitcher lied under oath in testimony to a House committee. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Henry Waxman and ranking Republican Tom Davis sent a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, urging more scrutiny of Clemens' statements in a Feb. 5 sworn deposition and at a Feb. 13 public hearing where he said he "never used anabolic steroids or human growth hormone."

Why in the world is Congress chasing Roger Clemens when we have world-class treasonous war criminals right in our White House? How can our Congressional Representatives seriously pretend to seek vengeance against sports figures when our supposed President, VP, and his administration have committed high crimes and misdemeanors? They are guilty of TREASON folks, and we need to pressure our Senators and Congressmen to do they real job they swore to do - to uphold the Constitution and protect our democracy from all enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC.

I couldn't care less right now if Roger Clemens was shooting up, but I really do care if my government is shredding the Constitution. There is the real crime.

Go to www.congress.org to look up the contact information of your elected officials. We should all be completely outraged over this massive waste of time, and this blatant denial of serious impeachable offenses. Constituents have a job in this democracy too, and that's to hold Congress's feet to the fire.

Seriously?? SERIOUSLY??!!

(CNN) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama defended himself and his wife Sunday against suggestions that they are insufficiently patriotic.
Asked during a town hall meeting in Lorain, Ohio, about "an attempt by conservatives and Republicans to paint you as unpatriotic," a questioner cited the fact that Obama once failed to put his hand over his heart while singing the national anthem.

The questioner also noted that the Illinois senator does not wear an American flag lapel pin, has met with former members of the radical anti-Vietnam War group, Weather Underground, and his wife was quoted recently as saying she never felt really proud of the United States until recently

He doesn't wear an American flag lapel pin?? Have we really stooped to this level?? I am one hell of a patriot; I support the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, I have educated myself through reading about the founding of our country, I vote in every election, I attend every caucus, I volunteer, I pay my taxes, I follow laws, I eat potato salad on July 4th, I buy bonds, I know my neighbors, and I sing the anthem with gusto. But I don't recite the pledge because I find it fascist, and I sure don't put my hand over my heart. I don't wear insipid little lapel pins, nor do I put asinine ribbon magnets on my car. My God, we are as shallow as the world thinks we are.

Doing Jack Shit

I'm on my second day of doing diddley-squat. I haven't been called in to sub and I'm left to my own devices. Yesterday I slept in until 8:30, read the paper, did some laundry, sorted said laundry, and picked up the downstairs. Did I mention that my family is a bunch of pigs? I was gone all day Sunday at twin #1's volleyball tourney and the house went to pot. To top off my lazy spree we ordered pizza for dinner. We had collected some very fine coupons and got 4 pizzas for $10.

Today I'll do more never-ending laundry. May even make a batch of cookies. I'd go for a walk but the air hurts. Our high today will be about 8 above. This afternoon I plan to nestle on the sofa for about an hour of reading. For tomorrow its back to work.

This must be what it's like to be George W. Bush, except without the airplane rides to my next vacation.

If you're a Mom, or just play one on TV, you'll love the book pictured above.

Frozen again

It's cold again. Current temp is 8 below. That's without the windchill. Why do we live here?????

25 years later . . .

I loved being tagged. Like I've said earlier, I don't have many original thoughts so being tagged gives me something to write about.

Here's the challenge: List 5 things you couldn't imagine 25 years ago. Or something to that effect. Twenty five years ago, I would have been 21. Whoa!!

1. I didn't think we could "elect" such a corrupt, conservative, Constitution-bashing administration. I believe in evolution and thought we were getting smarter. I didn't imagine any US government could erode civil rights and legal protections so quickly, and with so little protest from American citizens.

2. I didn't think I'd have all daughters, and that I'd enjoy it so much. Having all girls is a truly amazing experience. Also didn't think I'd have all my kids after the age of 31

3. I didn't think I'd meet and marry a New York Italian in my very late 20's, and that after 17 years of marriage he'd still make me weak in the knees.

4. I couldn't imagine the impact the computer and internet would have on my life. Sometimes I forget that information wasn't always right at my fingertips. I love being connected with far-flung friends and relatives almost on a daily basis. Sometimes I worry I'm too dependent.

5. I didn't think that in middle life I'd still be struggling financially. This housing slump has hit us HARD.

If Melinda June didn't tag you, you are NOW officially tagged.

Can anyone tell me, what's a meme??

Adsense is a vast right-wing conspiracy!

Blogging pal MG and I have given Google Adsense a try. It's supposed to work off key words in our blogs and place appropriate ads. Not that we're in it for the money, but you just never know. I do have three kids to put through college after all.

However, I'm now convinced it's a Bush administration vehicle for furthering neocon evil. MG's blog now has ads for Christian singles and mine has an ad for Mike Huckabee. HELLO! Do they READ our blogs??

So watch the bottom of my blog page for further evidence.

Again, I hate George Bush

Just feeling the need to do a little W slamming today. This man will go down as the worst disaster to ever hit American politics, that is IF he ever goes down. This administration has driven me straight into the tin-foil-hat-wearing crowd. I just KNOW they are tampering with voting machines, martial law, and whatever other evil deed they can do to stay in power. After all, Jeb hasn't had his turn in the Oval Office.

Did I mention I hate George Bush?

Just to set the record straight, this is a liberal blog. Liberal as in I believe in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, reproductive rights, gay rights, government as an agent of increased quality of life for all, etc.

I hate George Bush because he represents all that is rotten in government: corruption, greed, blatant self interest, narrow minded bigotry, lock step belief in theocracy, and just plain American ignorance. The man doesn't even READ for heaven's sake! He showed up at our horrific bridge collapse looking oh-so pseudo-concerned - as if his stingy breed of politicians aren't to blame.
