Lets talk ethics

Question:
Is it unethical to take things, that are not yours, from the lost and found box at school,
the gym etc.?
Discuss.

Yes, it's unethical, until the stuff in the lost and found box has been there unclaimed for so long that it is deemed free for the taking.

Is there a back-story here?

Not if they have been there for over 30 days.

I agree with Shan.

I think you can talk to the office or whomever is in charge of the lost and found. My ex-husband used to work at my daughters' grade school and claimed unclaimed stuff from there all the time. They generally wait a certain amount of time and then take the unclaimed stuff to Goodwill anyway.

At the hotel I worked at we had monthly lost and found boxes and after three months the box was opened and everyone could take what they wanted.

The person who found it got first dibs.

I always got all the books, no one else wanted them.

I think if it has been there 30 days or more it is free for the taking.

I'm going with the group consensus
and saying anything left for over 30 days is up for grabs. I think labeled stuff where kids are just too lazy to go look for it, should be returned asap.

Ok, dish!

I'd like to know where this box is at. I never get access to a good lost and found box. Seems many people I know have gotten at LEAST a cool umbrella or two out of one of these boxes. I'm missing out.
