Great TV shows of childhood #5

We lived for this show, DANIEL BUNN and others like it.  It was quite the genre of the 1960's - manly pioneers being manly men and doing manly things with other manly men.  A few manly natives thrown in for contrast.  And of course loyal loving pioneer women with grit, tiny waists and thick eyeliner.  But I always got angry at their weakness & stupidity, and the creepy portrayal of Native Americans. Even as a young girl I knew the blame lay with the writers.

I was always more attracted to the Native American sidekick in these shows.  The white guys bored me.

The Spanish voice over adds something, no?  What a Boone, what a do-er, what a dream-come-a-truer was he!  And he fought to make all Americans free, unless you were Native American, then he just tolerated you as his hunting pal as long as you bowed down to his manly white superiority.

Great TV shows of childhood #4

I purely loved "Here Come The Brides". Not because of Bobby Sherman, he kind of creeped me out. Still remember the old theme song "the bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle!" What warped perspectives of romance and gender roles we received as kids from the TV!

Great TV shows of childhood #3

I freaking LOVE the Stooges!
In Eastern Iowa, we all watched Dr. Max after school for classic cartoons and the Stooges. They don't make good kids' stuff like that anymore.

NIAGARA FALLS!!??!!!!

Great TV shows of childhood #2

So, you can probably tell by my post that I didn't watch the Oscars. It's no fun when I haven't seen most of the movies. Even making fun of the gowns didn't appeal to me this year.

Hawaii 5-0, or as my Grandma called it "Hawaii VO-5", wasn't always watched, but that theme song!! They take the Oscar for best TV show theme song ever. Book 'em Danno.

TV Shows of Childhood #1

I freakin loved this show, mostly because I had a school girl crush on Randolph Mantooth. Those wacky 70's first responders!
