Yes, it's my fault

I set off my building's fire alarms today.
While microwaving popcorn, the blasted machine from 1982 set the thing on fire after only 1 minute of popping! I ran the smoking bag outside immediately, but the loudest alarms known to man set off anyway. My ears are still ringing. This emptied not only all the offices but several classes in session.

The good news is I don't feel so sleepy now.

I bet the students loved it...especially the ones taking tests! Happy Friday!

Many companies have banned microwave popcorn for two reasons: complaints about the smell and false fire alarms. I am very proud to now know someone who has emptied a building in this manner. Pop away!

I would have been so embarassed......but I'm sure the students were cheering...well some maybe.

They need to update that dang microwave!

OMG: HILARIOUS. OK, I'm sorry, I'm sure you were embarrassed, and I would have been mortified b/c that's the kind of person I am, but still: really funny. Also, it reminds me of that early episode of The Office where Ryan, still a newbie temp, starts a fire while melting cheese on a pita for lunch. All that ruckus for a cheese pita! So sad. ;)

What an excellent end to the week! You are owed by dozens of grateful students, I'm sure.

Enjoy the weekend

Awesome. I was talking with a prof in Sociology when she suddenly heard the alarms and said, "I think that's the fire alarm! I gotta go!" Fifteen minutes later, I saw your tweet about it. I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

Ha..!!

You need one of the big, industrial-strength hoods we have in the lab at work to vent all that nasty smoke directly outside as needed.

Might be a bit of overkill for only microwave popcorn though. Might have to ask you to do that 'cheese pita' thing once in a while also.

P.S. Go Hawks..!!

They are coming north next weekend..!! Make sure you drive all your friends/coworkers/acquaintances crazy with your Hawk boasting . . .and then pray they live up to it..!!

Dada muses:
but mightn't that not set off all the outside smoke alarms, sending everybody outside inside into the burning popcorn inferno?

~ ... just a thought.

I used to work at a radio station where this happened a lot.

I was also warned never to pop it when a certain personality was in the station as he would berate you to within an inch of your life.

WHAT IS IT with people and food smells? I mean if you are eating gammel ost or something totally nasty, but popcorn?

At least you got a fun blog from it! love the fireman...

Back in 2002, I was still working as a teacher in a big new building. It was a brutally cold day and the fire alarms went off. They called us back in and I later found out that my friend Julie, who'd gotten me the interview with that school district, was the one who set the alarm off in exactly the manner you did.
