Brain Fart of Epic Proportions

Interesting Labor Day!

We had a family day and headed for one of our favorite eateries: Cossetta's in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Cossetta's in just one block from the Xcel Energy Center, which is now hosting the Republican National Convention. But we both had a major brain fart and forgot. The blocked streets, police presence, and the large numbers of icky young men in suits reminded us of just who was in town. For those of you who don't know, St. Paul is a highly DEMOCRAT community and I'm proud to say the OBAMA-FRANKEN-ETC lawn signs were out in abundance.

The traffic was just too much so we headed up the hill to beautiful Grand Avenue and had the best ever lunch at Salut Bar Americain. I had the seafood crepes and we all stuffed ourselves with the best french fries I've ever eaten - or as they say pommes frites.

Then we enjoyed a lovely walk down Grand Avenue. Twin #2 and I had a spontaneous walk-in haircut while the rest enjoyed the $1 for 1-minute chair massages.

Then home to pack backpacks and fill out paperwork for tomorrow is the first day of school. I'll miss these little critters!!

Could you smell the tear gas in the air?

Oh I asked to go to Salut for my birthday. They have delicious breakfast dishes.

I am glad you were not involved in any civil disobedience. I went downtown with my friend to participate in the big, peaceful march and we witnessed the wild, youthful anarchist march a bit.

Well, I did wear my "Vote Democrat" button featuring Rosie the Riveter and I was secretly hoping I'd stumble on a crowd of GOPers so I could flash it, and my AL Franken bumper sticker, proudly

Ah, how I miss Grand Avenue...my old college stomping grounds. When we lived across the river in Minneapolis, and Julia was a baby, I used to drive over there with the stroller in the back of the car, park and take her for walks up and down Grand and Summit. I have great, sweet, poignant memories of going alone to Bread and Chocolate, infant in tow, wrangling open the double doors to fit the stroller inside, to get decaf lattes to fuel our walks and brownies to take home for later.

P.S. My girls had a fantastic time with your daughter, babysitter extraordinaire. Thank you for allowing us to take her from you on a holiday. :) Not to mention another BIG THANKS for ALL the princess dresses/costumes! Talk about a thrill for a certain 4 year old!

Glad you didn't get arrested, as not everyone who got arrested deserved it (e.g. the "Democracy Now!" news team).
