My nervous breakdown has been scheduled

Loads of work and end-of-school-year crap. A job interview tomorrow for a full-time position even though I DON'T WANT FULL TIME WORK. Teens who feel completely comfortable telling me, to my face, that I'm a horrible mother and "don't do anything around here". Two catering jobs that paid a nice chunk only to have that chunk disappear when I backed into a car - at the catering job no less. Needing groceries when I have no money. Acne flaring up. Air conditioning in the car malfunctioning. Not to mention the imminent foreclosure and bankruptcy.

I've scheduled my nervous breakdown tomorrow between 8:30am and noon. I should be able to scrape myself off the ceiling and clean up in time for the interview, and perhaps still get in a few loads of laundry. I'm nothing if not efficient.

You don't do anything?

Sister, that sounds like a challenge to me. Don't do their laundry, buy or cook their food, drive them to their various activities, wash their dishes, scrounge up new bikes for them, take them to fabulous lakeside cottages, or anything else for a month and see how fast they change their tune.

{{{MNMom}}}, sending those cyber hugs your way.
I agree with kirby, mom doesn't do anything, wage your own little "on strike" war with them and see if they begin to notice all that you do.
My heart goes out to you babe, wish I were closer, we could at least commiserate over a drink or something!

Kirby knows the score! I am so sorry you are so stressed and that your girls are acting that way. They will regret it when they are older and understand...I know I do! I should probably call my Mom and apologize again tomorrow.

Best of luck with your interview, even if it is not what you want. I hope you can make the most of your nervous break down. It is pretty sad that we have to schedule those now-a-days. First people schedule giving birth, next it will be scheduling coronaries.

All my secular good thoughts to you!

I'd boot those ungrateful kids out. And then when they come crawling back, I'd make them get a freakin' job so they can help pay the bills.

Our children - even the best of them, can become totally ungrateful at some point in time. But like kirby implores - I did just that. I let the kids fend for themselves and do everything. After a week or so, their attitudes changed considerably. I wish you luck on the interview and in the immediate future.

I am so disappointed with my nieces! I agree with Kirby. GO ON STRIKE! I know it will mean one hell of mess when the strike is over-but at least they will KNOW what you do. I love you, sis and wish I lived close by so I could come over and open a can of whoop a** on your girls.

Yup. A strike.

(BIG HUG)

p.s. I started laughing when you said you might squeeze in some laundry...

the laundry is NEVER done.

p.p.s. REMIND them who scrounged around and got them new bikes!!! You work wonders Mama!

Just so you know, I've stopped doing the dishes for a whole week before and teenagers don't like to have to wash their own bowls and spoons and get embarrassed when their friends come over. If you can stand it, it's at least amusing to see their reaction when you REALLY don't do anything. Oh, all your clothes are dirty? Hmmmm. I guess you'll have to wash them then...It could work.

Good luck on the interview.

Argh! That means you're having your nervous breakdown RIGHT NOW! I'm so sorry!

Ha--everyone's comments about how you should go on a mom strike are cracking me up. That would be HILARIOUS. Can I just say, my daughter turns 5 today and I am so not looking forward to 10 years from now? She seems so sweet right now. :)

Deep breath, deep breath, deep breath. Also perhaps a cocktail or two (after the job interview).

You can do it!

I am sending my most positive energies northward. Your undaunted spirit inspires me.

I forget who gets the credit for this saying: "As soon as the rush is over, I'm having a nervous breakdown. I earned it, I deserve it, and nobody's taking it away from me."
