For 1:58 I can say I respected John McCain

This happened this week in Minnesota. The ignorance of some folks is astounding but we're a blue state so all is well.

Also, I'll go on record right here saying I would never, ever point a finger at John McCain for any so-called "caving" during torture while a POW. I personally respect him for merely enduring that nightmare and coming out alive. I don't know if I could have done any better. In fact I'd probably confess to anything and everything if tortured. I have no respect for him as a senator, a public figure, a skirtchaser, an adulterer, etc. And being a POW does not in any circumstance make someone qualified to lead the USA. But I will never be one to question his behavior during those years.

Well that's refreshing--something had to be done. The tone at some of those Republican rallies has gotten out of hand. I've heard voices on tape shouting in the background, "Kill Obama," and "He's a Terrorist."

Frankly I think it's beyond ignorance. It's horrific.

I felt sorry for McCain watching those clips last night. I got the sense that he's a man who has unleashed forces he can't control and realizes he's done things that he can't undo. It was a strange moment.

I'm with Bubs, sorta. McCain unleashed those forces (or let his troglodyte advisors unleash them), knowing full well that fear and hate would be his only real chance to win. But now he's too embarrassed to really ride the rumors and innuendo to victory. In that sense, he's better than W. But at the same time, I think he's realized that he probably won't win the race, and some deeply-buried, almost-dormant brain cells are firing and trying to undo some of the damage.

As for those questioners, please, leave my state.

You may not question his behavior in those POW years but I darn sure will.

For more concerning McCain's career- and those POW years, read "Make-Believe Maverick" in the Rolling Stone.

That 1:58 might be then seen in a different light.

I read it, and I hate the man. But for that 1:58 video, he did the right thing. Too bad he can't extrapolate that to the rest of his ugly life.

McCain's "Straight Talk Express" has turned into a crazy clown car fueled by fear and hatred. His supporters are losing their shit, they've thrown him into the trunk and taken over the wheel, and there is nothing he can do about it.

Yep, I agree with you MNMom, for that minute at that rally in Lakeville, McCain did do the right thing. It was actually touching, to me, for a moment, when he did. It made him seem more human. But mostly that whole incident horrifies and depresses me to no end. I just cannot fathom anyone being so ignorant as to truly believe Obama is an "Arab"--let alone an "Arab terrorist"! What in the world? And I feel sad for Obama having to hear those things. After all, he's an American husband and father, raising his kids, wanting the best for his girls just like I do for mine. It's so terribly sad that some people are afraid of him.

Girl those things had started looking like Klan rallies. One photographer I know who was working with the media pool said that a disgruntled and angry Republican spectator told him to "Sit down boy!"... with that southern "boy" being just a little too angry. At one point, he said he thought he would be lynched. He said it was like 1955 all over again. And he's beein the business a longggggggg time!

It's a pretty pathetic display of ingrained American bigotry, that's for darn sure.

He should have curbed his behavior, starting a couple weeks ago.
The fact that he is has not stopped Palin from spewing hateful bile is even more dissappointing.

Too little. Too late. And McCain looks utterly wrecked to have to admit Obama is a decent human being. Just what we need: a lynch mob.
