Big Wicked Online Pageant

Here's my entry in the Big Wicked Online Pageant! Hope I'm not too late!
That's me as the wicked witch on the left, circa 1969 or 1970. Yes, I am wearing a black plastic garbage bag and my sister is wearing a sheet. My mom was plenty thrifty. She also made my tote bag. Check out the groovin paisley pants underneath!
Plenty of great bloggers are entering today including Bubs and Dr. Monkey.

PS - I just realized that my sister's sheet says "Ghost! BOO!". Perhaps my Mom didn't think my sister could convincingly pull off the ghost portrayal, and she didn't want the neighbors thinking she'd send her 6 year old out dressed as an unmade bed.

Excellent! I always preferred the homemade costumes.

That trick or treat bag looks like it might have been made out of old chair upholstery. Very thrifty! ;)

Black garbage bags are an essential part of clever Halloween themes. I love the expression on your face--our eldest was the wicked witch a couple of times, and she would make that exact same expression every time she'd do her wicked witch laugh.

Great pic. I used to have some terrific Halloween pics of my twin and I...unfortunately all burned up in house fire in '84. There are just some things ya can't replace!!

Oh that is so much fun! I have no photos of me as a kid in a costume!!!

You're hilarious, I love the fact that your sister's costume needs an identifier.

You're rocking the hat and the paisley and look wicked but in the good way!

That picture and the smile on your face captures the spirit of halloween when I was a kid.

Love the costume. My mom was thrifty with our costumes which could explain why we went at hobos every other year :)

Perfect costume. AT the end of the night, you could tie up the holes and use it in the kitchen garbage can!

My brother had a succession of plastic garbage bag costumes. I like the homemade look, very stylish.

Personally I take issue with the fact that the ghost also has a face.

I love how the Wicked Witch needs such a stylish tote bag. What does she carry in there? Ok, candy I guess.

Great pic!

Did you have African American neighbors? Maybe your mom was just trying to let everyone know where your family stood, and that it really was a ghost costume. :)

Great costumes! I like the ID on the ghost--I mean, you never know whether people will mistake you for an actual ghost. (or a Klansman--Kirby's right!)

I agree with Coaster... the ghost having a face is throwing me for a loop. It kind of looks like it could be the ghost of one of those Troll Dolls that were so popular in the 90s.
