Insult to Injury

So the fever of the infection wasn't the infection at all, but instead the lead-up to a nasty head cold.
LORD I hate these things! They keep me from tasting food and I love my food!

Why can't some pharma company make a drug that REALLY works for head colds? I just want to breathe and make my head quit hurting.

Stayed in with movies and laundry all day. Well except a short trip to Target where I got HAILED on! Yes, hail, and cold, in May.

We watched Sherlock Holmes (loved it) and Young Victoria (loved it too). We're postponing Mother's Day - I'm just not up for it. We also postponed cupcake's 11th birthday. It was far too cold and rainy for the planned campfire cookout and Mom - the Master of all Ceremonies - feels like an old banana peel.

So what's up with you? Hope someone's having a much better weekend.

So bizarre, it could only happen to me

I am yet again having a bizarre, it-could-only-happen-to-me injury. As I've mentioned many times, I have trouble with acid reflux. Usually I can manage it with diet and some OTC drugs. But Monday night, a large volume of stomach acid literally exploded in my throat, causing me to fly from a sound sleep straight for the bathroom. It was AGONY! Like having battery acid poured down your throat. I had my husband take me to the ER because I was sure I was dying. They gave me IV morphine and some acid reducer, and sent me home with more narcotics. Tuesday I'm having an endoscopy to see what exactly the damage is.

Since Monday, I've had a sore throat that is hard to describe. Like having strep throat without the illness. I also have to try to sleep sitting up because the stomach acid comes right up if I lay down. Now I'm stressed from lack of sleep and this damnable sore throat. Ice cream helps but I'm sick of the extreme sweetness.

Am I a cartoon character or what??? Maybe I'm over-stressed from the dirty fingers in my sandwich episode.

Killing the Christmas Spirit

Nothing kills a Christmas mood like being sick. I've been down and out all week with a nasty cold and sinus infection. My Twin #2 is worse - my hubby is at the ER with her right now where they are testing for mono or influenza. She just didn't turn around, even after 3 days of antibiotics. So I'm up at 3am thinking of her, worrying, and using up all the kleenex. As a parent, there is nothing worse than seeing your kids hurting.
Addendum: She's back home. No mono, no flu, but still sick. But she's sitting up now, and she hasn't done that all week, so maybe we're turning a corner.

Ick. Sick.

Twin #2 and I have been home all week with sinus infections. This is miserable.

Stomach Flu Redux

I've been AWOL with the worst case of stomach flu ever. That is some nasty, disgusting juju. I've barely eaten since Thursday, which my rotund figure can take thanks to my sincere efforts to pack on weight to keep from freezing to death. Today the weather is in the 30's which we Minnesotans call Summer. I'm up to solid foods now and even chanced a small piece of pizza last night. God is in heaven and all is right with the world.

Observations from a sick day

I'm home sick today with an odd bug. Lucky for me, not sick enough to miss these observations.

1. Whole wheat toast just goes right through.
2. 7-up tastes like being sick
3. When I watch those baby-delivery shows on TLC, I cry big fat tears every time the baby is born, like I don't know how it ends. I'll always wail "Oh, it's a baby!" then cry until my contacts get smeary.
4. Strangely, even when I'm sick, I still love cooking shows. Emeril was making some mean looking sirloin sliders with horseradish cream. I think that will be on the menu for the Super Bowl.
5. Aleve is so much more effective for headaches than Ibuprofen or Tylenol.
6. Good thing we have that box of widowed socks on the dryer - I'm way too lazy to go upstairs and get a good pair.
7. Reality TV is the major contributing factor to the dumbing-down of American culture.
8. People come and go quite a bit around here during the day, and they slam their car doors with earnest.
9. I don't understand global economics.
10. My family is a bunch of pigs. If I'm out of commission for even a few hours, everything goes to the dogs. The kitchen's a mess, they can't aim properly for the trash can, recycling piles up, etc. You get the picture. Love them all - I'd take a bullet for any of them - but can't they just wipe something down now and then?
11. And wouldn't you know it - I get a great invite from one of my favorite friends to go to the Cities for an evening out with other fun women. At least I have my plans with MG tomorrow.
