Petless

We are now officially a no-pet family.

Yesterday, after much wrangling, we got the scaredy-cat into a carrier, and she went to my friend Mary's farm. There she'll happily hunt mice in all Mary's outbuildings, and befriend Mary's pot-belly pig, 3 dogs, and 4 other cats. The scaredy-cat wasn't adoptable so the Humane Society wouldn't take her. Luckily Mary wanted a good mouser who didn't need affection. Scaredy Cat to the rescue!!!

Anyone want to adopt the most adorable cat ever??? Go the the Rice County Humane Society and click on "Adoption Information" and see our cat May. She needs a really good home - she's tiny and sweet and loving and oh-my-breaking-heart I want her back.

All the cat paraphernalia is going into the garage sale pile.

In a strange way, I'm rather relieved this is all over and decided. No more pooper-scooping. No more smelly cat food. No more vet bills. No more worrying when they don't come home at night. No more chewed up bird bodies in my path. And mostly no more cat hair.

How did a dog person end up like this????

I am so sorry that you had to give up your kitties. Sounds like Scaredy Cat will be in cat Utopia. I want to go and get May right now! Sounds like she was an outdoor cat though, our neighborhood is too busy and full of feral cats. Hmpf.

I hope that you feel some relief despite the difficulty letting go.

You'll have pets again. One day.

We have had so many cats for so long I think I could use a break in caring for pets myself. Think 7-10 cats for almost 20 years now. Hubby keeps bringing them home though...

I hope your other kitty gets a really nice home with loving humans to care for it.

I hope that May gets adopted and I am so happy that the other cat will be living on a farm.

I am still so sad for you all. Listen, say what you will about the vet bills, the dead animals and so forth, we know you love them.

*sigh*

There will be more cats, I feel this. One day, one day.

Yeah, I hear you. We've had our cat for almost 15 years and though of course we love her, she's become old and grumpy and antisocial since we had babies. When she goes to kitty heaven, I will be relieved to have no more catbox, no more hair on the couch and chair, no more bothering me at night when I'm trying to sleep. I'm glad one of your cats got to go to a farm home.

Sorry about your kitties. I've always been petless, because I can't afford my children, so a pet was out of the question. Now that we might actually get our first house and move out of apartment world, they're still asking. But I can afford a pet even less now. I hope your sweet cat gets a good home.

I'm so glad you found a home for your scaredy cat..........I'm sure he/she will have a great life. Hoping May finds a good home soon.

Such a sad option in all this moving dilemma. But, as most situations go, there is the upside as you mentioned. I wish you well on this new adventure.

I am not sure if it helps, but when I went to see your kitty and other pretty kitties, I found out about a day camp for kids to volunteer and help animals at shelters. A sweet daughter of some friends is so excited to go now and help take care of the animals, learn about them and help make things to make their lives better.

Maybe that doesn't help, but I thought you should know. You can have the credot for making a shy 9 year old over the moon!
