More school supplies

Hey Governor Pawlenty,

Remember when I told you how freakin much school supplies cost? Well, today I had to shell out $90 for a graphing calculator so Twin #1 can work her Advanced Algebra and Intro to Engineering classes. Word has it that Twin #2 will need one too. And take note of the $185 I shelled out for a Varsity soccer uniform, bag, and warm ups and the $110 check we wrote so the kids could be in the Fall play. And we haven't even BEGUN to write the checks for lab fees, art fees, and others. That starts next week with the first day of school.

Yeah, I guess we could just keep them out of those classes and activities and avoid the cost - yeah, that's a good choice for us poor until-recently-middle-class families. We shouldn't expect that our kids will go to college anyway, right? We're the new face of poverty and need to lower our expectations while you rich fat cats just line each other's pockets and advance your own kids, right?

Back in 2005 a group of Northfield citizens begged you and your party to raise the public education budget by a mere 5%. Remember our rally, where hundreds turned out and signed letters asking for this increase? You probably don't, because you were too busy arranging the tax increase to fund the stadium for the billionaire Pohlad family. I'll remind you, you shot it down and now we have increased fees and up to 40 kids in some classes and struggling families going broke to send their kids to public schools.

Thanks a bunch you cretin.
PS - you suck.

Things I want to hear

I'm waiting to hear the following . . .

From a GOP member: "Now people, cool it with the death threats and the stupid accusations of death panels and forced euthanasia. You're just proving we're all wingnuts! Some of us have an education, and some brains, and we need to discuss this matter like adults!"

From my kid's friend's parents: "Hey, how 'bout we split the driving? We drive one way and you drive the other?"

From Sarah Palin: "I must admit, I'm just really not qualified."

From our mortgage company: "We finally understand what you've been saying all along! We'll stand to keep thousands by renegotiating your loan!"

From my kids: "Mom, I'm really sorry I've been such a pill. How about I make dinner tonight?"

From my employer: "We've decided you are all valuable, and all this talk about layoffs will end right here, right now."

From my neighbor: "We're going to be keeping our yappy dogs inside more often, and definitely after 10pm. You need your sleep!"

From President Obama: "We freakin won! Enough of trying to appease these yahoos! We're going ahead with what's right and what's decent, and they can just sit on their thumbs and spin."

From Rupert Murdoch: "What have I done?"

From Dick Cheney: "I have a few things to get off my chest. Start the tape recorder."

Thank You Jenny Sanford

"His career is not a concern of mine," she (Jenny Sanford) told reporters as she departed the family's vacation home in Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. "He's going to have to worry about that. I'm worried about my family and the character of my children."

Thank you Jenny, for NOT being one of those horrid spineless twits that stand behind their lying-ass cheating jerk of a husband at his press conference, while he tells the whole world that he's really a great family man and his loving wife doesn't deserve this and that nothing means more to him than his spouse and children. He had to face the press alone, like he should. I hope she takes all her money back, then cleans him out but good.

I hate those adulterer apologies - how come they aren't that sorry BEFORE the tryst? We all know he's only sorry he got caught.

And Larry Craig is only sorry there was a cop in the next bathroom stall. And Newt Gingrich is only sorry he's not on his 5th wife. And Rush Limbaugh is only sorry that one of his wives wasn't a pharmacist. And Giuliani's only sorry he can't date all the Rockettes. And Ted Haggard is only sorry he ever pretended to be straight in the first place. And John Edwards is only sorry that everyone likes his wife. And Eliot Spitzer is only sorry he paid so much.

I'd say they are just a sorry group of men.

Come again?

Hey, guys, can any of you remind me again why it destroys traditional marriage if John and Steve get married and stay together for 32 years? Explain to me again how gay marriage is the biggest threat ever to traditional family values? Tell me that story again about how you are the champion of fidelity, commitment, and about God's special love for the conservative white man. I love that story.

Now that's family friendly

From Emily's List:

During U.S. House consideration last week of a bill to grant federal employees four weeks of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a child, Republicans (who hail themselves as "family friendly") had some choice comments. A not-so-compassionate conservative Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) sarcastically suggested, "Maybe we just ought to let federal employees take 16 years off!" Rep. Chris Lee (R-NY) said the bill provided "more generous fringe benefits" for federal employees, and some Republicans even suggested that employees might have or adopt children just to get four weeks of paid leave.

The bill passed the House after a mostly party-line vote.

What a great bunch of family-friendly people!
