Much like Kirby, I'm bringing the veggie tray to Thanksgiving. Either my family is being very kind since I'm traveling over 2 hours that morning, or this is their subtle way of saying "we hate your cooking".
Americans like their veggie trays in standard formation, don't they? Vegetables arranged in spokes coming from a nice round bowl of ranch dip in the middle.
But what if I spiced things up? Luckily my family would get a hoot out of it. And I'm making SPINACH dip!
Here's something fun - a cabbage dip bowl! Nothing says "greedy pig-dog American" like using food as a decoration.
I'm partial to THIS design. It's reminiscent of us Midwestern women and our unshaved legs in the winter.
Off center, stacked, kinky, I like it!
PESTO! I've got lots of that in the freezer!
AND I'm bringing Red Velvet Cake. But I make mine in a jelly-roll pan - it goes lots farther that way. An old pot-luck trick.
So what are YOU making for Thanksgiving?

Jansen's Temptation-thinly sliced potatoes layered with caramelized onions, Jarlsberg cheese, anchovies and cream, then baked. Perfectly fattening, salty, and sweet! I am also bringing an acorn squash side dish with too much butter and brown sugar! THANK GOD for the fresh veggie tray!
Two pumpkin pies and a blueberry tart for the two parties, brunch at mom's and our friend Thanksgiving Saturday and Sunday.
Then we are going to be T-bone, Boo Boo & I...maybe Jake and Sair on Thursday.
T-bone is grilling the Turkey Breast.
I am making -
Cornbread and sausage stuffing
Mashed taters
Gravy
cranberry sauce from Alexandra Guaraschelli
Green beans with toasted butter almonds
Now I am starving for delicious veggies! Nice collection of images!
I am not making anything...that I am aware of...
My Mom likes to make everything because she makes everything the best. I also thinks she loves cooking for all of us.
I will be washing a lot of dishes though.
I'm taking two pumpking pies and a red velvet layer cake. This is me with my husband's family and that family has no dessert sense.
Oooh. That's a wonderful idea. I might just bring a veggie try too.
I'm to bring mashed potatoes- Christmas Potatoes from the Silver Palette cook book to be exact(80's much?) - they contain sour cream, cream cheese, nutmeg and loads of butter.
I also would like to top off the heart attack with deviled eggs and a 7up bundt cake.
I'm bringing the baby, that's all people want from me anyways ;)
I finally decided to capitulate to tradition and include carrots and celery, but people are going to have to eat that with a socialist pesto mayo on the side instead of the white man's ranch. Then for the more adventurous, I pickled mushrooms and green beans, marinated olives of all sorts with garlic, chili, and oregano, and will bring the fixings for tamarind vodka cocktails.
I always got assigned the veggie tray, too. But I never brought any as good looking as these! Have a great Thanksgiving!
